Helping extraordinary people live ordinary lives

Birch operates residential facilities in Brooklyn and Queens serving individuals from school age through adulthood with developmental disabilities, giving them the support they need to live more independent lives.

Our mission is to ensure that our residents pursue their interests, learn to care for their needs as indepently as possible, and are become become active members of their communities.

At the core of our homes are the bonds individuals form with each other. Our individuals are family to each other; their Birch home is the place where they live and learn and grow together.

Day Habilitation Program

Our Day Habilitation Program provides habilitative services to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Day Hab services are individual-centered, and vary depending upon individual needs, preferences and interests.

We offer a range of opportunities designed to help individuals develop personal, social and vocational skills needed to lead productive and independent lives.

Our individuals volunteer to work in a variety of community sites including offices, schools, food pantries and grocery stores. In these settings consumers provide clerical, maintenance, childcare and catering services. In return, they learn the value of engaging in meaningful and productive activities that give them a sense of independence and value.

Community Habilitation

Our Community Habilitation services help individuals to take care of themselves in their homes so that they can continue to live in the community.

We work with individuals to help them master activities of daily living such as grooming, cooking, or cleaning; travel training; shopping and recreation. All our services are based upon the needs, preferences and interests of the consumers and their families.

Residential Programs

Our homes provide 24-hour supervised residential care for children, adolescents and adults with autism, physical impairments and other developmental disabilities.

We focus on helping individuals develop their activities of daily living, communication and socialization skills, and support independence and individuality by promoting self-respect and community integration. Birch is a place where our individuals live, learn and grow together as a family.
